There are a number of different printing processes, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Digital Printing
Pros
- Excellent resolution and picture-perfect print quality
- Variable & sequential data printing
- Low MOQs, fast lead times (5 working days)
- Flexibility to change/amend designs quickly and easily
- Different label designs can be batched together to create larger more economical orders
- Vibrant colours through inkjet printing
- Toner-based digital print is safe for use on food packaging labels
- Various finishes including hot foiling, gloss & matt UV & TT varnish, rough feel varnish, bespoke spot varnishes etc.
- Perforated labels
Cons
- Less economical vs. flexographic printing for very high volumes of a single label design
- Pantone conversion to cmyk requires colour matching and testing prior to printing.
Flexographic Printing

- Ability to match exact Pantone colours
- Large quantity sheeting capability including A4 sheets
- Can run plain and printed labels
- Perforated labels
Cons
- Longer set up time, which means shorter runs are expensive
- Longer lead times vs. digital printing (7-10 working days)
- No flexibility to change designs, with each design change requiring its own plates
Hot Foil Printing

- Perfect for Write & Seal Labels
- Asset and PAT test labels
- Wide range of materials and foils are available
- Quick set up which is ideal for small quantities
